1.- TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE.
What´s technology?: Technology is the group of kwonledge, skills, and techniques that human use to satisfy needs and to solve problems.
Techhnology is the practical application of knowledge. Technology works like a system that involves turning natural items into useful products: eg.car, tin, clothes, etc. It´s the “know-how”.
Technology works like a system (Input-Process-Output and feedback) where natural items turn into manufactured products. Systems are developed to address a goal.
- The INPUT are the resources availble to the system.
- The OUTPUT are the products generated by this system.
- The PROCESS is the way to get the goal.
- The FEEDBACK is used to control this process, it is the signal or measure that says how well the goal is being achieved, or how well the process is working.
2.- TECNOLOGY AND SOCIETY.
Technology and society work together: technology responds to society´s needs and helps societe to develop.
Nowdays technology is present in all areas of society and has made major changes to our lives. Can you image a world without telephones or computers? And without cars, trains or planes? Could we live with food that only comes from tradicional agricultural processes?
ACTIVITIES Nº1:
a) Look for information about the main industries in your community. Write a short report about what is produced and how technology is used.
-The Castilla la Mancha´s industries haven´t got much importance in its economy.It´s located in the areas near Madrid and Valencia.
The most important industries are the food and agriculture sectors( wine,flour,…).Other industries are the Wood industries and the textile industries.There is a mercury mine in Almaden.
b) Find out and write down the environmental problems that can come from those processes.
ACTIVITIES Nº2:
-The agrifood industries have got organic wastes
-The wood and textile industries have got organic (sawdust and wool) and inorganic (dyes) wastes
-The mercury mine have got a lot of toxic and dangerous wastes(the mercury is toxic)
